First they purchased Artisoft Televantage
About Artisoft Televantage-What began as a networking company in the late 80’s became primarily a software company.  Building a PC based PBX on a Windows Platform using off the shelf Dialogic boards was their primary agenda, and it worked.  Their Windows  based technology was easy to use, easy to administrate, and the Windows based software interface for end users was great when it came to productivity.
Next they purchased Instant Office- Instant office had spent years becoming one of the leaders in IP technology, and engineered hardware and technology for systems that would support thousands of nodes within their infrastructure.  Mostly sold to colleges, and military installations the Instant Office delivered hardware that was dependable and had a long track record of easy maintenance.
Then the opportunity to acquire Comdial Business Telephone Systems came along.  Comdial had at the time over 400,000 desktop telephones on the market, mainly with digital desktop phones.  And a strong dealer network of over 100 dealers nationwide that are skilled to service, support, and install one of the oldest telephony platforms in the industry.
Next came the acquisition of Vodavi, who was one of the great pioneers of Voice Over Internet Protocol technology.  And Vodavi had one of the finest service and support infrastructures in the business communications industry.
So, sometime around 2005 (ish) Vertical decided to pool their resources into a Best of Breed Business Communications platform…
They combined the Software Features and useability from TELEVANTAGE.
The Hardware Engineering and technology from INSTANT OFFICE.
The Digital Telephone Desksets from COMDIAL.
The IP Infrastructure and Support System from VODAVI.
I am sure that there are more details that I have left out, but the bottom line is that Vertical has built one of (if not THE) most feature rich, dependable, and easy to use Business Communication Platforms available today.
